Above the water line
Curacao has a lot to offer for when you are not diving. There are a lot of historical buildings and of course there is the carnaval and the harvest parade.
Historical buildings
Willemstad and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer. A lot of historical buildings are beautifuly restored. And even if the buildings are not yet restored a lot of these are very pictoresque in their current state.
On my regular trips through the districts of the city and along other areas of this island I have taken a lot of pictures. Each of the following albums represents an area or style. Enjoy the journey with me. And don't forget to come and see for yourself.
Carnival
Carnival is thé event of the year. A lot of people are saving money during a large part of the year to be part of this fest. In the period before the main parades the people are warming up through "jump-ups", basically fund raising events. A large group of people accompanied by one or more music bands are jumping through the streets. The culmination of this all are the main parades: the horse parade, the childrens parade and the adults parade.
Harvest parade
The traditional harvest parade is becoming bigger than the carnival parades. Lots of people in traditional clothing dancing on traditional music are parading through the street.
